The Kenya office started operations in 2008..
..with a mission to make better healthcare accessible and affordable to all Kenyans. The Kenyan office does this through in-country initiatives including standards for quality improvement (SafeCare), loans for healthcare providers (Medical Credit Fund), healthcare financing (M-TIBA), impact research and advocacy.
Today, 1,100 private and public healthcare providers are using SafeCare standards to measure clinical quality and safety as well as to improve organizational management and processes. Over 780 health providers have accessed loans and quality support. In addition, over 100 students drawn from our pool of healthcare providers have graduated with qualifications in Management of Healthcare Business partnered from Kenya’s Strathmore Business School, through our partnership to offer tailor-made practical courses to help healthcare professionals build their business acumen.
Our ambition is to ‘give everyone the power to care’ through the digitization agenda. We see partnerships as the right vehicle to fulfill our dream of making better healthcare accessible and affordable to all Kenyans. Through our in-country public private partnerships we hope to inch closer towards our collective goal for universal health coverage.

Partnerships that make a difference
In 2017, PharmAccess, the Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital, and the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) signed a partnership agreement that will see over 50,000 beneficiaries living in Nairobi’s informal settlements access the NHIF SUPA cover through the M-TIBA platform. The sponsored households were identified through Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital Foundation.
